Professional News Comparative Study Visit of Udayana University to Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University

Penjamu FT UNY - On July 12, 2023, Yogyakarta State University (UNY) hosted a comparative study visit organized by the Quality Assurance Unit of the Faculty of Engineering UNY. This activity began at 08.30 WIB and lasted until 11.00 WIB in the 2nd Floor KPLT Conference Room, Faculty of Engineering UNY. The participants of this visit were 50 people from Udayana University, who came to share experiences and knowledge related to ASIIN accreditation.

In this meeting, Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNY, revealed information about the new program of the Faculty of Engineering UNY, namely the S3 Engineering Science program, which was inspired by Udayana University. This program received tremendous attention, with 42 applicants who have registered. In fact, the interest in the S3 program at the Faculty of Engineering UNY exceeds the interest of similar programs at other universities.

Prof. Ir. I Nyoman Budiarsa, M.T., Ph.D., from Udayana University, delivered the internationalization plan of ASIIN accreditation. Udayana University has 12 study programs, including master's programs, doctoral programs, and undergraduate programs. Udayana has a rich history, related to Bung Karno, and has obtained AUN accreditation for the S1 Mechanical study program. Next year, Udayana University will apply for ASIIN accreditation for 5 study programs, including 4 master's programs and 1 doctoral program.

Dr. Umi Rochayati, M.T., Head of UNY Quality Assurance Unit, explained that several study programs at UNY have obtained ASIIN accreditation, and there are 5 study programs that will apply for ASIIN accreditation in 2023. This process involves the preparation of a Self Assessment Report (SAR) by the study program which is then followed by the creation of an ASIIN Joint SAR. The main focus in the Joint SAR is to ensure that the curriculum is in line with ASIIN's needs.


Dr. Handaru Jati, Ph.D., provided insights into online field assessments and waste issues that were noted as important in the Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) experience. Next, representatives from Udayana University Bali spoke about the plans for IABI accreditation for undergraduate programs and ASIIN accreditation for graduate programs. They also revealed that most study programs at Udayana have obtained Excellent, Excellent, and Good accreditation. Some master programs such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Architecture will start the ASIIN accreditation process.

In addition, representatives from Udayana University Bali also provided information about the condition of their university and the programs that will get ASIIN accreditation. They mentioned that some undergraduate study programs will apply for IABI accreditation, while S2 study programs will apply for ASIIN accreditation. It is known that Udayana has two campuses in Sudirman and Bukit Jimbaran with 12 study programs, most of which have received Excellent, Excellent, and Good accreditation. The Master of Mechanical Engineering, Master of Electrical Engineering, Master of Civil Engineering, and Master of Architectural Engineering study programs will begin the ASIIN accreditation process. They are also planning a visit to Diponegoro University in Semarang on Thursday.

The visiting participants from Udayana University Bali also asked several questions related to ASIIN accreditation requirements, practicum, alumni, and important preparations during ASIIN field assessments. The answers from the speakers indicated that thorough preparation is necessary, including documents, online tools, and cooperation with industry. The process of applying for ASIIN accreditation will also require simulations and focus on meeting ASIIN standards. After ASIIN accreditation, the study program will automatically be included in BAN PT (National Accreditation Board for Higher Education). The translated documents must cover 100% of the requirements.

Overall, this comparative study visit provided valuable insights for Udayana University in its efforts to internationalize and improve the quality of education. Yogyakarta State University hopes that this collaboration will strengthen the relationship between the two universities and provide significant benefits in the development of higher education in Indonesia.
