Workshop on Preparation of FT UNY Vision-Mission Achievement Report: Collaboration with Various Stakeholders
UPM FT UNY - Yogyakarta, September 5, 2023 - The Faculty of Engineering, Yogyakarta State University (FT UNY) held a Workshop on the Preparation of the FT UNY Vision-Mission Achievement Report 2023 by involving various stakeholders. This activity was held in a hybrid manner in the KPLT Conference Room, 2nd Floor, from 12.30 to 16.00 WIB. This workshop was organized by the FT UNY Quality Assurance Unit to review the relevance and achievement of the faculty's vision-mission.
Prof. Edy Supriyadi, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FT UNY, in his speech stated that the vision and mission of the faculty are achievements that must be continuously reviewed and refined. “We ask for input from the speakers and participants whether the vision and mission of FT is still relevant and legible,” said Prof. Edy. He also highlighted the platinum award that FT UNY has received as a form of recognition for the quality of quality assurance.
Dr. Umi Rochayati, Head of Quality Assurance of FT UNY, explained the leadership structure of FT UNY, the list of study programs, and the vision, mission, and goals of the faculty. She emphasized the importance of a clear and measurable development plan to achieve the faculty's vision.
Widodo Bodro SE, General Manager of PT Nihon Seiki Indonesia, said that there are five UNY alumni working at Nihon and two students who are doing internships. Widodo gave some inputs, including the importance of FT UNY students having a commercial portfolio and mandatory internship program to improve soft skills. “Students must be active in organizations because this is one of the important requirements in employee selection at Nihon,” Widodo explained.
Nugra Anggrianto Ardani Putra, Technical Sales Manager at Modula South East PTE. LTD, Singapore, emphasized the importance of developing soft skills and English language skills for FT UNY alumni. “Engineering soft skills are very important and need to be improved through various relevant activities,” said Nugra.
Widodo Teguh S., M.Pd., a representative from SMK N 2 Pengasih, conveyed the importance of character soft skills in accordance with UNY's slogan “Leading in Character Education.” He highlighted the need for more effective teaching strategies for students doing PPL in schools.
Herry Fitriyadi, M.Pd., a representative from SMK N 2 Amuntai, South Kalimantan, praised FT UNY alumni who have contributed significantly to his school. “FT UNY alumni are very creative and adaptive, often becoming the mainstay in various competitions in South Kalimantan,” said Herry. He also emphasized the importance of a superior seed selection system and curriculum alignment to support standardized learning.
In the question and answer session, Yosep asked about specific points that need to be strengthened besides English. Nugra replied that work character and communication skills are essential to compete in the global market. Widodo added the importance of giving students the opportunity to practice egalitarianism and develop global character.
Mr. Giri asked about the modern management model applied in the company, and Widodo explained that his company uses a modified TQM (Total Quality Management) adapted to their manufacturing conditions.
The results of this discussion are expected to provide better insights and strategies in preparing the report on the achievement of FT UNY's vision and mission. With collaboration and input from various stakeholders, FT UNY is expected to continue to grow and achieve its goals as a leading technical education institution.
