MECHRONIC ENGINEERING EDUCATION PROGRAM OF UNY ACHIEVES EXCELLENT ACCREDITATION

Penjamu FT UNY - Improving the quality of education continues to be the main focus of the Faculty of Engineering at Yogyakarta State University (FT UNY), where this is evidenced by the recognition of an external institution, namely the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). Not long ago, one of the study programs (prodi) within the FT UNY, namely Mechatronics Engineering Education, was added to the ranks of study programs that are in the superior accreditation category (equivalent to A) from the higher education quality assurance agency based on BAN-PT Decree No. 12811/SK/BAN-PT/AK-ISK/S/XII/2021, which is valid until June 2026. Responding to this achievement, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UNY, Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono, Ph.D emphasizes three things. "First, this superior accreditation is a collective result with various parties contributing. Not only those who now hold the mandate, but also the predecessors so that all parties need to be given appreciation," he said.

Second, accreditation is proof of outsiders' recognition of the quality of education at the UNY Faculty of Engineering in general and the Mechatronics Engineering Education Study Program. We consider this achievement a mandate and a trust that must be maintained. Third, this superior accreditation is also one of the independent campus policies proclaimed by the Minister of Education and Culture.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator of the Mechatronics Engineering Education Study Program, Sigit Yatmono, M.T., hopes that the accreditation status achieved can further open the horizons of the general public, especially those who will send their children to continue their studies at the tertiary level. Understand the importance of the quality standards of study program organizers and not get stuck in practical interests. "Hopefully, the acquisition of superior status will increase students' interest in learning basic sciences, especially Mechatronics," he said.

However, the various achievements that have been achieved do not necessarily make the Mechatronics Engineering Education Study Program complacent and ignore the challenges ahead. "We will continue to try to improve the quality of study program implementation, because after all, the ever-dynamic developments must always be anticipated. Study program standardization is the most appropriate indicator," said Sigit.

He also believes that achieving accreditation will have a positive impact on increasing student motivation, as well as making graduates more confident and easily accepted in the workforce. In fact, many graduates have been accepted for work before graduation.
